Inspired by Dan Pink's book, Drive, and his example of a results only work environment (ROWE), I was inspired to apply this model to my own teaching.
The concept of ROWE is the brainchild of Jody Thompson and Cali Ressler, a couple of former Best Buy execs who got the mega company to launch a system that allows workers to set their own hours, focusing entirely on the results of a project, rather than how it gets done.
The Results Only approach is steeped in Pink's Type I behavior model. Type I people are intrinsically motivated. They are autonomous and have a strong desire to master their trades and contribute to a greater purpose.
So, the great experiment is to inspire young learners (7th graders) to become Type I people and to flourish using a results only learning environment (ROLETM).
I'm blogging about it over at Jody's and Cali's site. Here's the most recent blog post.
Stay tuned for more.
Meanwhile, you can learn more about Jody and Cali and ROWE in the video below.
Can applying a ROLE approach change American education forever?
